A very special gift from the Alumni and Friends of LSE in the United States

During her visit to the USA in late April, LSE Director Minouche Shafik announced that the Alumni and Friends of LSE in the US (AFLSE) has donated its endowed scholarship fund to LSE.

We are incredibly proud that the School has been entrusted to continue with its wonderful legacy, and we will work closely with the AFLSE Board of Directors to increase the fund to $1m and secure it as an LSE scholarship in perpetuity.

AFLSE was founded with the mission to serve the alumni community and encourage students from the US to study at LSE, and has been working tirelessly to raise both awareness of the School and philanthropic support from alumni to establish an endowed scholarship fund. Since 1979, the AFLSE scholarship has been awarded to 150 students embarking on one-year taught masters programs at LSE. This extraordinary achievement has been made possible by donations from US alumni, and the careful stewarding of the fund by the AFLSE Board of Directors over many years.

AFLSE has awarded a scholarship for more than 40 years and we are delighted that this will continue forward.  This gift was made possible through the donations from many alumni over the years, and it will ensure that deserving students from the US continue to be shaped by one of the most diverse and exceptional universities in the world.  We thank the School for working with US alumni to endow this scholarship and honour the many US alumni who share a special bond with the School.

Mont Rogers (MSc Economic History 1987), AFLSE President

The AFLSE’s scholarship has been at the core of our efforts to support LSE and our community of alumni and friends in the US, tying together generations of LSE students, past and future. We can think of no better way to support the School than to help some of our most promising students fulfil their dreams of studying at LSE.

Beth Halpern (MSc Government 1998), Chair, AFLSE Scholarship Committee

To ensure that the AFLSE scholarship will continue to be awarded in perpetuity, we will be opening the fund to further philanthropic support and invite you to participate.
