Alumni in Canada launch new scholarship fund - a gift to future generations of Canadian students
In November, Professor Larry Kramer visited Toronto for his first public engagement trip to Canada as LSE President and Vice Chancellor.
At an evening event attended by LSE alumni in Canada spanning generations, Professor Kramer shared his first impressions of LSE, ambitions for the future, and gratitude to LSE alumni for maintaining their connections with LSE and each other. The evening was hosted by Ken Rotman (General Course 1987, MSc International Relations 1989).
This was then followed by a special announcement made by Mark Bonham (BSc Economics 1985, MSc Economics 1986) on the creation of a new endowed scholarship fund – a gift from Canadian alumni to future students that reinforces the generations-long connection between LSE and Canada. Ken, Jonathan Pollack (MSc Accounting & Finance 1994) and Mark have spearheaded the new scholarship fund, pledging their own support while also inviting alumni and friends to join them in growing the fund through a philanthropic gift.
The LSE Canadian Scholarship Fund will ensure that talented Canadian students can study at LSE each year, irrespective of financial background. The goal is to create an endowment worth C$5m, and as part of the School’s commitment to students from Canada, LSE will match returns from the fund to double the amount of support we, together, can offer.
The scholarship has been enabled by the generosity and foresight of a group of 15 founding donors who have generously pledged a collective gift of C$1.5m to create the fund. With the match from the School this will provide one full scholarship in perpetuity, and we look forward to welcoming the first recipient.
Join your fellow Canadian alumni and make a gift to the LSE Canadian Scholarship Fund today. Your support will help us to achieve our goal to support four talented Canadian students, each and every year, to realise their dream of studying at LSE.
