How do scholarships power talented individuals?

Scholarships are truly life changing, ensuring that talented students can harness the power of a world-class education at LSE to transform their own prospects and enhance their societies. In turn, the entire LSE community is enriched by the diverse perspectives of students from every background.

Thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends, we have been able to support 258 students this academic year, including Kaira, Laura, Paul, and Victoria. Their stories demonstrate just how vital these scholarships are and the direct impact gifts to the Scholarship Fund have on our students.

Having grown up in a low-income household, and with very modest savings, there’s no way I could have attended LSE. During and after my undergraduate degree, I had to care for sick relatives, putting my career goals on hold. Studying at LSE feels like a lifeline after a difficult time, and the feeling I had that I’d ‘missed the boat’ post-graduation has now been lifted. Thank you.

Receiving financial support is very significant to me, as without this generosity I would have not been able to take up my place at LSE. The financial support I receive plays a large part in covering my accommodation and other living costs such as travel and food– which over this past year have increased dramatically. The scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies and has relieved the financial burden of studying – thank you for providing me with the means of fulfilling my goal of studying at LSE.

The financial support I received has alleviated a lot of stress and means that I can focus on my studies and use my free time to volunteer and serve the community. Without your generosity, my time at LSE would not have been so positive; thank you for investing in me, my education, and my future.

A university education is becoming increasingly unachievable for disadvantaged students who face longstanding socio-economic barriers to education. In the last two years alone, we have seen our scholarship applications increase by 72%, and we expect demand to continue to grow given the pronounced financial difficulty and uncertainty many around the globe are experiencing. The need to expand our financial support has never been greater, and we can only do this with the help of you, our alumni and friends.

Over the last two years, the LSE community generously embraced calls for support in our time of need, and we are incredibly grateful to all our alumni and friends who have donated. Together, we are supporting talented individuals to help them realise their potential and shape the world for good.

Thank you in advance for anything you can do to support our students.
