The Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Undergraduate Scholarship Programme will open doors for UK students at LSE
A new undergraduate scholarship programme for UK students from some of the most under-represented groups within higher education has been made possible by a generous £3 million endowed gift from The ERANDA Rothschild Foundation.
The Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Undergraduate Scholarship Programme for UK students will enable talented students to pursue their passions at LSE by providing three new scholarships each year in perpetuity. The students will be selected from some of the most under-represented groups in higher education in the UK, aligning with LSE’s mission to welcome the most talented students, regardless of background.
At a time when financial pressures are making access to higher education increasingly challenging for many families, this new scholarship will help ensure that exceptional talent, rather than financial means, determines who can benefit from an LSE education. The scholarships will provide students with the security to focus on their studies and embrace the full range of academic and personal opportunities available to them at LSE.
The Endowment will support a three-year undergraduate programme within any of the following eight departments: Economics, Economic History, Management, Government, Social Policy, Finance, International Relations, and Geography and Environment.
A scholarship that will change lives
At a time when the world needs diversity of ideas and voices, access to an LSE education is becoming less certain for many exceptional students. So beyond supporting individual scholars, the programme will contribute to a more diverse community of future leaders, bringing new voices and perspectives to fields including economics, government, international affairs, finance and social policy. As generations of Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Scholars graduate and go on to make their mark in the world, the impact of this gift will extend far beyond the students themselves.

An enduring legacy
The late Sir Evelyn de Rothschild had a strong association with LSE over four decades. He served on the School’s Court of Governors for over 40 years and was an Advisory Board Member for the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment before becoming an Emeritus Governor of the School. His commitment to philanthropy was reflected in his founding The ERANDA Rothschild Foundation. This generous scholarship programme honours his enthusiastic support for the School and steadfast commitment to helping others.
By endowing LSE with a permanent source of funding, the Foundation is providing support to generations of students year after year, in perpetuity. In an uncertain world, this long-term security allows LSE to plan with confidence, protect opportunity for future generations, and continue attracting outstanding students and researchers who will tackle the pressing challenges of the decades ahead.
