Celebrating our donor community

We are very grateful to our donor community for believing in our mission. We are committed to LSE remaining open to all, as are you.

Emma Simpson, Head of Regular Giving, was delighted recently to welcome many of you to a special afternoon on campus and update you on the Shaping the World Campaign. Since the start of the Campaign, gifts to our regular giving programme have totalled £4.4 million – a testament to your collective generosity which has a significant and tangible impact on the School community.

At a reception in the Alumni Centre, James Ringer, LSE’s Head of Scholarships and Financial Support, spoke movingly about the hundreds of motivated and capable students who “were put off from pursuing a university education simply because they believed it was financially out of reach.” Those conversations drive him every day in his work. Thanks to the continued support of our donor community, James and his team are empowered to break down barriers and expand access to an LSE education through scholarship and bursaries.

This year, thanks to your generosity, 20 students across a range of undergraduate programmes have benefitted from a New Futures Fund Scholarship. Given the increasingly challenging economic climate, this academic year saw the number of offer holders requesting financial support at the undergraduate level grow by 13 per cent,

One of those New Futures Fund scholars is Hisham Abdullah (BSc Economics 2025). He took a break from studying for his final exams to thank the regular giving community who made it possible for him to be a student LSE. As he said “you didn’t just fund my education. You changed the trajectory of my life — and by extension, my family’s life.”

What the New Futures Fund Scholarship gave me was more than financial relief. It gave me room to breathe. It gave me freedom — to study without panic, to pursue internships without sacrificing my learning, to lead, to mentor, and to grow.

During the afternoon we welcomed alumni and friends from as far back as the 1950s, many of whom shared their memories when they took a guided Art on Campus tour. One of the highlights included the beautiful Chorus of Ripples in the Legacy Terrace Garden in the Centre building. The largest shard there, which stands at three metres high, has inscribed the names of a number of individual legacy benefactors whose gifts of £25,000 or more, have been realised since August 2020.

To those of you who choose to support the School thank you. Your generosity has a direct impact on the lives of our students, and it is truly inspirational to know that you share our commitment to ensuring LSE is open to all.

We are so fortunate to have a dedicated and engaged regular giving community who donate anything from £5 to £10,000 to LSE at any one time.

Thank you to all our alumni and friends who chose to support LSE philanthropically. Collectively, your generosity is helping to support, develop and empower the next generation of thinkers and leaders.
