How do interdisciplinary social sciences shape cities for the better?
Since 2013, generous gifts from alumnus Richard Oram have enabled LSE’s social science departments to shape cities for the better, by enriching research shaping real-world policy and supporting student initiatives.
His longstanding support of the master’s in Regional and Urban Planning studies in the Department of Geography and Environment has enabled talented students to excel and has driven innovative research through the Oram Foundation Fellowships and the Progressing Planning initiative. His gift has influenced topics like planning regulation, density and perceptions of public safety, and speaks to the positive impact that can be created between active alumni and engaged students.
At LSE Cities, research is bringing together a wide range of disciplines to enable a novel approach to policy and transport studies, integrating insights from behavioural psychology, customer research, urban governance and transport policy.
LSE is a place where different social sciences come together to ask the difficult questions, and shape new ideas and innovative solutions. I’m pleased to contribute to world-leading research that shapes policy, as well as inspires the next generation of LSE alumni.
