How the Hardship Fund helped Mazen overcome adversity

LSE is committed to ensuring that its students have the ability and confidence to complete their studies despite any financial hardship they may face. In the wake of today’s global turbulence and uncertainty, it has never been more important that we are able to offer financial stability to those students who need it.

Each year, thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends who support the Hardship Fund, we are able to provide one-off financial awards to students who are facing financial hardship. This assistance is there to ensure no student has to abandon their studies due to financial reasons and can help towards accommodation costs, technology to assist with online learning, funds to travel home, or other urgent needs.

One of the 127 students who received a hardship award in the 2022-23 academic year is Mazen Makki. He spoke to us about the significance of his award and how receiving the hardship funding meant he could take up his place at LSE.

Thank you to all supporters who have already helped to ensure funding is available to students like Mazen. Every gift to the Hardship Fund, no matter the size, goes directly to providing talented students with the means to overcome financial obstacles and complete their studies.
