Increasing our understanding of Pakistan’s foreign policy

Earlier this year, Dr Seema Khan joined LSE IDEAS, the School’s foreign policy think tank, as the 2022 Jinnah Postdoctoral Fellow.

Dr Khan has an impressive background in security and defence studies, with special focus on power politics, strategic relationships and identity-based politics, and has worked for the Government of Pakistan for over 20 years.

She joined us to undertake research into Pakistan’s approach towards the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, as well as to explore other dimensions of Pakistan’s foreign policy – which is swaying away from its traditional alignment with America and strong affiliation with China. Her work will provide a deeper insight into Pakistan’s international outlook and the geopolitical and geoeconomic implications for the Indo-Pacific region.

I am thrilled to have been named the 2022 Jinnah Postdoctoral Fellow at LSE IDEAS. I cannot truly express how much this opportunity means to me, and how grateful I am. This newfound association with a world-renowned institution affords me many research opportunities. I am also filled with a deep sense of responsibility as I look to continue the impressive and meaningful work of LSE IDEAS and the School.

Generously funded by Dr Saqib Qureshi, the Canadian Jaffari Muslim Foundation and other donors, the Jinnah Postdoctoral Fellowship was launched in 2020 to bring new insights and spark meaningful conversations about Pakistan and its place in the world.
