Transforming lives together

A scholarship is a truly life-changing gift. Each year, hundreds of LSE alumni and friends choose to make gifts to the Scholarship Fund, which supports New Futures Fund scholarships for undergraduate students from low-income backgrounds throughout the entirety of their studies at the School. Now in its 21st year, the New Futures Fund has benefited over 230 students through transformational scholarships. Without the support of the generous donors who choose to support our Scholarship Fund with gifts of all sizes, many of these students simply would not have been able to take up their places to study at LSE.

We spoke to some of this year’s New Futures Fund scholars about the impact of their scholarships.

Daniil Brotsman

My parents face ongoing financial uncertainty back home in Ukraine, so receiving my scholarship meant that I could take up my place at LSE without having to cause them any further worry, which is a huge relief for me. LSE is considered one of the best places in the world to study International Relations, and I am putting all of my energy into gaining the knowledge necessary to contribute to the development of my home country in the future. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.

Vsevolod Martseniuk

My scholarship has granted me the gift of time, and without it I would have had no choice but to get a full-time job to support myself while studying. Thanks to this gift, I have been able to join the Vis Moot LSE team, become a representative for LSE Congress, and act as an academic representative on my course. I hope when I achieve my goal of becoming an attorney that I too will be able to give back by financially sponsoring opportunities for students. It is my moral obligation to return the kindness and support that others have shown me to help the next generation of lawyers. Thank you to all donors who have supported me so far.

Vsevolod Martseniuk (LLB Law Student)

When I received my scholarship offer, the feeling was indescribable. I had my heart set on studying at LSE but at times had doubted that I would be worthy of gaining a scholarship. Being granted this opportunity to study here has made me truly appreciate the power of generosity, and I hope that one day I too can have an impact as great as yours on someone else's life. Thank you!
